others. he's still at large and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >

, by accident. prosecutors say the killing was intentional and premeditated. cnn's robyn curnow is joining us from johannasberg, south africa. the prosecutor's laid out their plan. how did they do? >> reporter: it was like a roller coaster. i felt like i was watching a television drama. initially when the prosecutor laid out their case, they gave damning evidence and found two boxes of testosterone and syringes in his house. by the time the defense came in after lunch, bit by bit they ripped apart the state's evidence and unravelled quite spectacularly at one stage because there was quite an interesting exchange between oscar pistorius' lawyers and the investigating officer and he said, well, how do you know this is testosterone? have you tested it yet? and he said, no, i just read the label on the box. and he said, if you had gone to any pharmacy or any chemist, would you know that this is a herbal medicine. that's the kind of interchange taking place. also, the investigating officer really looking quite red-faced by the end of his stint. he admitted that he he didn't wear protective foot co

and explain what was in it. this is what he said on cnn that sunday. now, i will put this up because the words should live in infamy. this is how he described the budget that he laid out. quote -- "our budget will get us, over the next several years, to the point where we can look the american people in the eye and say we're not adding to the debt anymore. we're spending money that we have each year, and then we can work on bringing down our national debt." that is exactly what the american people wanted. that's exactly what they wanted to hear. there was no qualification in that language, none whatsoever. he was speaking directly to the american people on the most looked at news programs i guess of the week, the sunday morning news programs. he said similar things on several of the other programs that he participated in february february 12, 2001. no qualifications. how could it be heard otherwise than those plain words would suggest, that we had a plan, that the president had a plan, that mr. lew was producing a budget his office produced that would make sure that we were on the right course
